Deputy min: E-commerce duty-free level to fall to 200 euros from 2020

MOSCOW, Feb 20 (PRIME) -- Russians will pay a 15% duty on every purchase made in a foreign online store starting from 500 euros from 2019 and from 200 euros from 2020 with the charge included in the price of goods, Deputy Finance Minister Ilya Trunin said on Tuesday.

“With the adoption of a new Customs Code of the Eurasian Economic Union, which took effect on January 1, it was decided that one of the world’s highest threshold of duty-free import of goods in international postal items will decrease,” Trunin said.

The union (EAEU) comprises Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia.

At present, the threshold for duty-free purchases of goods is the same as for the goods in baggage of air passengers – people can pay no duty for imported goods worth up to 1,000 euros per month. Excess is charged with a 30% duty.

Russia will cut the rate to 15% from 2020, Trunin said, adding that it is only a draft so far, but the ministry expects the document to be adopted.
